Newsletter June 2026

Dear tenants and residents,

The Tenants’ Organisation Woonplus (HOW) works every day for the interests of all tenants in Schiedam. We believe it is important that tenants not only live well, but are also heard and involved in decisions that affect their home and neighbourhood.

1. Performance agreements 2027-2030: investing in housing and liveability

HOW has given its advice on Woonplus’s draft proposal for the performance agreements 2027-2030. Among other things, we asked for attention to:

  • enough affordable social rental homes;
  • clear agreements on new construction, demolition and sale;
  • making homes more sustainable and lowering energy costs;
  • tackling damp and mould problems;
  • more homes suitable for older people;
  • investment in safety and liveability;
  • support for residents’ initiatives;
  • protection of tenants with low incomes.

We believe it is essential that tenants are informed in good time and actively involved in all developments in their neighbourhood.

2. One appointment, several repairs

Woonplus gives tenants the option of having additional small repairs carried out during an appointment already scheduled with a Woonplus technician. This is intended to improve service to tenants and avoid the need for a separate appointment for every small repair.

This has several advantages, such as:

  • one appointment for several repairs;
  • shorter waiting times for tenants;
  • more efficient service;
  • less administration.

The technician decides during the visit whether additional work can be done straight away. The work must fit within the technician’s available time and capabilities. Woonplus applies a maximum of € 500 per visit.

HOW considers this a positive initiative that can contribute to better service for tenants.

3. More safety with burglar-resistant doors

Living safely should be a given. That is why HOW is calling for outdated entrance doors to be replaced with certified burglar-resistant doors with at least the SKG 3-star quality mark.

This allows us to:

  • reduce the number of burglaries;
  • reduce vandalism;
  • increase residents’ safety and sense of safety;
  • improve liveability in vulnerable neighbourhoods.

HOW wants this measure to be included in the performance agreements with Woonplus and the municipality of Schiedam.

4. Drop-in hours for tenants

Do you have questions or problems, or would you like information about your home or neighbourhood? You are very welcome at our weekly drop-in hours.

During the drop-in hours, tenants can for example:

  • ask questions about housing and renting;
  • report problems;
  • receive advice and information;
  • get support in contacts with the housing corporation;
  • discuss ideas and improvements for the neighbourhood.

We are here to help you.

5. Your voice as a tenant counts

Our aim is to make sure that your voice as a tenant is heard by the housing corporation.
